Aadhaar is a unique 12-digit identity number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of the Government of India. Aadhar number serves as proof of identity and address anywhere in India. Now, if you have an Aadhaar card then you can download it in PDF format from the Unique Identification Authority of India's (UIDAI) website. According to UIDAI, an e-Aadhaar card downloaded from the UIDAI website is a valid proof of identity. Aadhaar number is free of cost and can be used while opening a bank account, applying for a passport, booking e-tickets and many other places where there is a need to establish identity. It is valid for the full life of an individual and you do not need to change or renew your Aadhaar from time-to-time.

How to download Aadhaar card from the UIDAI website

Follow the below-given steps to download Aadhaar card from the UIDAI website. Step 1: Visit the official website, uidai.gov.in. Step 2: From the given options select 'My Aadhaar.'

Step 3: From the drop-down menu select 'Download Aadhar.' Step 4: On the new page appear, you need to enter your 12 digit Aadhaar number or you can even enter your 28-digit Enrolment ID (EID) as mentioned on the acknowledgement slip or 16 Digit Virtual ID (VID) Step 5: Next enter that captcha code and tap 'Send OTP' if you have not generated 'TOTP using m-Aadhaar app'.

Step 6: A six-digit OTP will be sent to your mobile number. The OTP will be valid for 10 minutes. Step 7: Enter the OTP and click on 'Verify and Download.' A PDF will be downloaded on your computer. Step 8: This file you download is password protected. You need to enter the password for the file, the first four letters of your name as mentioned on Aadhaar card which you will have to enter in capital letters and your year of birth in YYYY format. Note: For instance, if your name is PUJA YADAV and you were born in the year 1993, then your password will be PUJA1993. Step 9: Open the PDF and enter the password, your electronic Aadhaar card will appear on the screen. Aadhaar is for individuals, therefore a number issued to an individual shall not be reassigned to any other individual. Aadhaar is based on biometric and demographic data.
